Lesson 108: “To give and to receive are one in truth.”
This lesson clarifies the Course in this: “And in this understanding is the base on which all opposites are reconciled, because they are perceived from the same frame of reference which unifies this Thought.”
The Course explains repeatedly how giving and receiving are the same.
I love this idea, because it totally heals my old baggage around the ego-idea of losing when I was giving.
The world and the ego are totally positioned in scarcity, and therefore, giving in the world always means, automatically, that I lose out, as soon as I hand off that thing to someone else.
The Course says that God’s Love is always maximal, and whole, and plenty, and therefore, when we give in God-consciousness, we end up with more at the end.
God’s Presence is not the same as the world’s, and God’s laws are totally different.
This means that we can get really excited about giving, because then we get the gifts of giving, in the return too.
Especially when we insert God’s Love, at the foundation of whatever it is we give, then God’s Love expands when we give it away. And when we feel God’s Love going through us, as we give it to another, we actually have that Love skyrocket within us.
This is amazing!!! We can be tickled about this reality.
A seriously cool part of the Course is in how this lesson explains how opposites are reconciled.
We end up learning that giving and receiving are one in truth, because we experience more of the plenty while we do them both, as soon as we are in God consciousness .
The very cool thing about having these opposites reconciled is that we can accept, that there is no separating factor in the opposites, that used to exist.
Suddenly, inclusion can be possible, so this conclusion naturally leads us to opening our minds, to the possibility that we can open our minds if we so desire. The example here is so helpful.
Initially, we were not brave enough to bring them- any opposites- together, because we were afraid that they would not find any common ground between them, because they are opposites, and thus, then there is a lack of belief, that it is possible to reconcile them, and unify them.
God wants us to always have a consciousness of inclusion, so that we are open to uniting all things, uniting all of our brothers and sisters, as well as remembering that the separation from God never happened.
If we were never able to reconcile our opposites, we would be stuck, and not able to believe this can happen, so we may never make the attempt to do so.
The Course reminds us that our belief in exclusion, could never be, simply because here is an example of a worldly thing we can all relate to- giving and receiving- and God is demonstrating through this example, that this is in fact possible.
Thus, we can run with accepting it, and also run freely with reconciling our differences with other people too. Even though they have major differences, the Course reminds us here how this is not actually true.
We just need to see that this is no reason not to forgive another, or to not let our judgement of another go.
