Lesson 69: “My grievances hide the light of the world in me.”
The Course is teaching us the absolute importance of noting when we have grievances. We especially want to notice them because they are so prevalent and undetected in the ego’s view. We need to stop to just get honest with ourselves. The ego can be so loath to self-honesty. It goes contrary to the energy of the ego which is all about hiding pain and burying it, instead of bringing it up and out of our consciousness. Let’s make regular space for these processes in our every day life. We need to prioritize this and give space for this over the days.
Grievances are little bits of hate, and little bits of separation that the ego puts between us and others because the ego is averse to connection that is constant. The ego likes to hide in the midst of the ego’s emotional upset. Then it can stay in power and make the decisions about what to perceive. We have to make effort to see that the ego wants to keep our grievances fresh and real so we won’t be able to deny them as they occupy up mental space and persist in taking energy.
The amazing thing that the Course wants us to know is that the light of the world in us is never changed or uprooted in any way. No matter what the ego believes or tells us with its own sense of stilted confidence, it is wrong about who we are. The light within, God’s Light, is never dimmed in any way. No matter what is happening in the world, this light persists. Jesus teaches us here that the light is always maintained within us because it is the essence of God and is permanent and unchanging. What can happen is the light gets hidden when we are off the beam. We forget how lovable we are so we forget to play the part of the one with gorgeous light illuminating our minds.
