Lesson 111: Review: “Miracles are seen in light.” “Miracles are seen in light and light and strength are one.”
One of the amazing parts of our being human and the heirs to God, we can all make miracles, and as often as we want. We can live the most blessed life because it is chock-full of miracles. The miracle can be a never ending breath in our every moment. All we have to do is be willing to take the steps necessary to make miracles a reality.
When I was younger and growing up in a family with a typical Christian view point, I cringed at the world’s miracle and I stood in awe at the miracles Jesus did. I simply bought into the idea that only one of God’s children- Jesus- was chosen to make such extraordinary accomplishments in the world. I thought miracles were simply of that person and out of my reach.
I love that the Course makes miracles a central part of the philosophy. I have had and continue to have a renewed relationship with the idea of a miracle. It now feels so amazing and wonderful to think of being miracle minded and to realize that the miracle is not out of my reach. The miracle is not designated to only one person. The Course teaches us that we are all equally important. We are not just skating along on the edge of thin ice hoping we are going to measure up. Jesus says that God thinks we are always worthy of receiving His finest gifts because of the quality of our hearts and minds and this never changes.
The Course teaches not just that the miracle is designed for all of us equally but the fact that the miracle is specifically a shift in consciousness means it can happen any time and all the time. When I was a kid and believed in the grandness of miracles and the unreachable nature of miracles I didn’t even really use the word miracle because it seemed so far beyond our reach.
God teaches us in the Course of our extraordinary worth and lovability and our perfect essential nature which never changes. We are set from the start when we simply take in this fact. But then, on top of being worthy of all good things, we are all powerful enough to create miracles as we go. Then the miracle becomes a common thing.
The Course’s interpretation of miracles also helps me realize that the miracle is an energy change, so it is always possible no matter where or what we are doing. When I had a more limited and worldly idea of a miracle, I saw them as physical phenomena and so seemingly much harder to do. I appreciate the Course’s view of the miracle because it helps me in general focus on energy in life and make less attachment to the physical changes and form which the world usually wants. We want to realign our focus onto God energy not the physical nature of how we live. This is where we can be empowered because we can choose our reality there.
