Lesson 98 Laurie’s Reflections

Lesson 98: “I will accept my part in God’s plan for salvation.”

We are asked to have an attitude of willingness.  When we are fully willing to do what God asks, that means we are putting our intention into the equation.  When we come with our willingness to be in whatever role God is asking, this is when we are doing our unique part in the plan of salvation for all.  The important thing is to keep renewing our own willingness.  Sometimes this can fall by the wayside and sometimes we forget to bring it to the Hands of God for direction about how to proceed.  Being willing means we can trust in God’s plan and will be fully available in our minds and hearts to receive what is God’s perfect will.

The other important emotional piece is being humble enough to not try to dictate what our plan is with the ego’s agenda.  We are asked to delicately undo the ego’s attachment to what it thinks is the ideal plan.  We need to make sure that we are not trying to be overbearing with God about how things should go.  We are asked to forgive ourselves for often getting us in the predicament of trying to control everything.  Then we relax and try on a subtle, though potent humility.  With this humility we can join with God and everyone else because we are not trying instead to outdo everyone else and hold fast to the plan at hand.  When we are humble, we get out of the way and allow God to direct.
This is an extraordinary gift to ourselves because we can step living in the problem of ego-land.   Humility allows us to be soft enough to join God because we aren’t pushing instead.  This is why the sense of humility is ever so important.  However, the other essential piece is making sure our certainty is intact and fully operational.  The certainty is the knowing that we are worthy of God’s love.

We need to bring humility with the certainty and then we will have the most perfect formula to make peace and the ease of living within God’s light and will.

This lesson says, “Is not five minutes but a small request to make in terms of gaining a reward so great it has no measure?  You have made a thousand losing bargains at least.”  This is so to the point and honest.  Jesus tells us the absolute truth.  One of the overriding ideas that the Course wants us to learn is that we settle for so much less when we stick to our ego’s plan.  God is giving us every bit of comfort, freedom, peace, joy, kindness and a sense of innocence and yet we still react to God like God is the nightmare.  We make bargains in which we lose to say the very least.  We are asked to realize what the ego is doing and simply give the ego the eraser to undo any belief that isn’t God-centered.
