1-19-15 Lesson 19 Laurie’s Reflections

Lesson 19: “I am not alone in experiencing the effects of my thoughts.”

This lesson says,”You will notice that at times the ideas related to thinking precedes those related to perceiving, while at other times the order is reversed.”  Jesus wants us to understand that in our human experience that both of these proposed mental scenarios can come in either way.  Jesus wants us to look at what our mind is doing.  We don’t want to deny its inner workings.

But what we want to do is be in no way distracted from the purpose than lies beyond this kind of detail in how our minds work.  Jesus wants us to know that God has compassion for the way we function and wants to tell us He sees how we function mentally.  Furthermore, this may or may not be the case for everyone.  This is ultimately not important.  The Course says that its purpose is to not teach love, for that can not be taught, but to simply remove the blocks to love’s presence.  This is the way we can live in the consciousness of love always when we simply allow nothing to interfere with the experience and application of this love.

This is another lesson to help set us up for some great truths we will hear of soon.  This lesson is reminding us like yesterday that union with our brothers and sisters and with God is our most natural state.  Since we are energetically one and wholly combined with all whom we see we are clearly going to be affected energetically by each other.  And we can know that this is always the case.  This isn’t just true on Tuesdays.  This is our regular way of interacting in the world.  We all have the capacity to feel each other because we are all in this web together that God created to envelop us and protect us from anything that is not God.
