Lesson 361: “This holy instant would I give to You. Be You in charge. For I would follow You, certain that Your direction gives me peace.”
The purpose of the Course is to teach us to get out of the way. The problem is that our egos have a distinct liking for being in control. This addiction to control is off the charts. The insane need our egos have to always be right and treated with deference is the ego’s regular rant. The ego makes a big stink about staying in control because this is the ego’s usual way. The ego does what it does because it is habitual. We learn in the Course how to see the difference between when our egos are overly attached to our sense of control or rather when we get the other option of being entirely emersed an unknown behavior and energy. This, rather, is God.
The Course teaches us first to have a moment of recognizing when our egos are so focused on control that we can’t keep the ego at bay. When the ego gets its heals dug into the idea of controlling, it almost feels like we can’t shift it. The ego is pushing forward full speed ahead with its heals dug into the ground. No matter how impossible it seems to be able to keep this at bay and then change it, the Course teaches us that we can do this. The Course teaches us how to do this. All we need to do is make it our practice with no hesitation.
One of the amazing things we can do when our ego is in control is simply stop the thoughts in our minds. We need to vigilantly stop the thoughts and see them as unreal. When we simply allow them to pass with no excess attention for them and also with a non judgmental manner then we simply can let those thoughts go. We can meet the thoughts with the deflection in our minds. We simply stop them with the knowing they have no meaning and are unreal. This is how we let them go with relative ease because when we give them no reality then they more easily pass through our minds. They vacate our consciousness with no additional lingering that they might have had earlier when our egos were driving the vehicle of our minds.
