Lesson 61: “I am the light of the world.” 

I love the Course’s brilliance in this lesson, describing with poetic words, “Who is the Light of the world except God’s Son? Being the Light of the world is merely a statement of truth about yourself. Being the Light is the opposite of pride, arrogance, or self-deception. It does not refer to a self-concept you have made… It refers to you as God created you. To the ego, today’s ideas are the epitome of self-glorification. But the ego does not understand humility, mistaking it for self-debasement. Humility consists of accepting your role in salvation and taking no other.”

I know my ego does not readily buy into thinking I am the Light of the world and that God saves me, and I hold others when I show up to life as an expression of Love instead of arrogance and pride.

Since God says we are all the individual Lights of the world, the Course asks us to accept this and not disbelieve it. I know I need to take time and effort to carry it to get to a place where it is more readily part of what I can buy into.

I instantly diminish what I can do and always diminish my power and strengths, making it a part of my personality where it is tough to believe this could be true.

I need to continually remind myself of this so I finally will accept that this could be true. I appreciate the Course’s wisdom here about taking that I need to believe that God declares all of us, including me, as the Lights of the world.

We all can show up and understand this since the Course explains that this is God’s choice to make us all saved and saviors of all others and ourselves, so I can more readily believe this is my salvation and my capacity to keep all others I encounter world side is arrogant not to believe because God declares it.

I do not enjoy feeling arrogant, and I go out of my way not to show up and do something that elicits my feelings of arrogance, so I try to avoid feeling arrogant. I do not believe that God would put me in a place of being a Light of the world or a savior to me.

It is too hard to think, so I am grateful for the Course’s description of how God wants all of us to be the Lights in the world so we can save, and God keeps us.

As children of God, God creates us with God’s energy so we can all do exceptional things and protect ourselves and the world because we are the Lights of the world and God’s children.
