ACIM Lesson 4

Lesson 4: “These thoughts do not mean anything.  They are like the things I see this room, (on this street, from this window, in this place).”

This lesson says, “You will find, if you train yourself to look at your thoughts that they represent such a mixture that, in a sense, none of them can be called ‘good’ or ‘bad.'”

The Course just wants us to have fuel within for the work and effort it takes to get into the momentum of surrendering our judgement.

We have some very clear logic here with which is very difficult to argue.

When we sit and think about our thoughts- they indeed span a range of the kind of feelings they elicit in us.

They all may cause us a broad range of reactions within themselves.

And so, when we actually take the time and effort to look at this, the reality is that they surely can’t be called either one or the other- good or bad, because none of them is wholly one way or the other.

This for me is so obviously true.

I really love the Course’s pointing out this really great logic, and then, allowing this to support us in the process of being willing to be vigilant in mind watching.

It is much easier for me to buy the world’s being unreal when I simply remember that we can’t define the world in the nature that it is.

We have to allow it to be in the realm of undefinable because the truth is, as we just said, it is.

This is why I will make the effort to see this truth as real because it has some validity.

The Course right here makes valid points about the world not being able to be defined as we know it.

When I see the Course’s logic here it makes me fight less dramatically against the idea that thoughts do not mean anything.

My ego can always get into an attack cycle at the realization that my thoughts do not mean anything, so whatever I can use to just be gentle with my self in the process is a great plus.
